10th Annual Golf Tournament

The overwhelming success of our tournament over the past 9 years is due to you, our generous sponsors and participants!  We truly believe in our fundraising efforts for Southlake Regional Health Centre and are proud to report that we are leading the way in Canadian Charity Golf Tournaments with over 97% of all funds raised going directly to our Cause!  Once again this year our focus is on Mental Health!

 Facts about Mental Illness:

  • In any given year, 1 in 5 people in Canada will personally experience a mental health problem or illness.
  • Southlake treats a variety of disorders that may include: anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, schizophrenia and substance abuse. And, as the population ages, cases of dementia will also grow drastically, putting further demand on crisis mental health care for families struggling to cope with increasingly confused loved ones.
  • Mental illness affects people of all ages, education, income levels, and cultures.
  • 33% of all Group Homes in the province are located in York Region, 8 of them within walking distance of Southlake. When crisis occurs, these people and their families simply must know that Southlake is able to care for them.

Mental illnesses are often invisible, but the drastic shortage of acute mental health in-patient beds in York Region and surrounding communities is a highly visible problem indeed.

Southlake’s Mental Health Program serves all of York Region and its surrounding communities with a variety of programs, including in-patient treatment, day programs, out-patient services, emergency crisis intervention, and child and adolescent eating disorders treatment.  Roughly 12 patients come to Southlake’s Emergency Department every day in need of urgent mental health support. With only 7 child and adolescent in-patient beds and 24 adult in-patient beds, the biggest challenge is ensuring access to the patients who rely on Southlake for care when they are at their most vulnerable. Funds raised through our 10th Annual Charity Golf Tournament will make it possible to meet the growing needs of these patients through increased support services and capacity to ensure their ongoing recovery.
